Applied Geomechanics Tiltmeters on a Global Positioning System (GPS) Geodetic Array

Many of the receivers in the Japanese array incorporate AGI tiltmeters to automatically account for changes in antenna tower inclination over time. One biaxial tiltmeter is mounted on each tower and the measured tilt angle is sent directly to the GPS receiver as a NMEA string. These data are parsed and processed by algorithms to compute the ground location at the base of the tower with respect to the antenna position at the top.
